Fat Cattle Report
Good morning, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 1st week of September, 2024.
Tallied numbers this week included –
6300 fat cattle
25000 lambs
11200 mutton
1700 store cattle
Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a pretty good quality yarding with a selection of all grades suiting all buyers.
Young kill cattle were up to 10 cents dearer with prime yearlings bringing 340 - 410c/kg. Feeder steers were unchanged while the feeder heifers were 10 cents cheaper, with feeder steers selling from 300 - 439c/kg, while the feeder heifers made 270 - 344c/kg. There was a limited supply of young restockers penned.
Grown steers were 10 cents dearer selling from 336 – 395c/kg.
Heavy grown heifers were 15 cents dearer making from 321 – 368c/kg. Cows were 10 cents cheaper, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows selling from 230 - 295c/kg, while the prime heavy weights made 296 - 329c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients -
Firstly locally at Dubbo for the Grattan family, who sold well bred Angus steers to the light feeder order making 411 cents, they weighed 370kg coming back at $1521.
Down the road to Yeoval for the Vaughan family of “Iona”, who sold properly finished Angus 2 tooth steers weighing 750kg making 400 cents and bringing $3001.
Lastly to Wellington for the Deshon family of “Rocklee”, who sold well bred Angus cows that were properly fattened weighing 724kg and bringing 327 cents, coming back at over $2369.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where it was a good quality yarding with good runs of trade weight lambs, but only a limited supply of extra heavy weights.
Lightweight lambs to kill were $10 dearer with the 12kg – 18kg 2 scores making from $95 - $140.
Trade weight lambs were also $10 dearer with trade weight old lambs 20kg – 24kg made $140 - $210 to average between 780 – 810c/kg.
New season trade lambs sold from $190 - $237 to average around 865 - 885c/kg.
Heavy weight lambs were $5 dearer with old lambs 24kg – 30kg selling from $200 - $240 with lambs over 30kg topping at $265 to average 840c - 865c/kg.
Merino lambs gained $10 - $15 with heavy weight Merino lambs selling from $158 and topped out at $258 to average 760 – 800c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Firstly to Brewarrina for the Stendell family of “Ben Avon”, who sold well bred Merino wether lambs with a 1 inch skin, to the local exporter for $215.
Across to Tottenham for the Cook family of “Glenidol”, who sold well bred and properly finished Merino wether lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition, to the local exporter for $208.
Lastly in the same district for the Plummer family of “Trigoona”, who sold well bred crossbred lambs with a half inch skin, in a 3 & 4 score condition for $222.
Into the mutton pens now, where most grades were represented in a good quality yarding that saw everything sell to dearer trends.
Medium weight Merino ewes sold from $72 - $115 while heavy weights in a good skin topped at $146, while the crossbred ewes topped out at $150 with most mutton averaging between 380 – 410c/kg.

Applications open for producers and agents
All eligible sectors can apply for the NSW Sheep and Goats eID Infrastructure Rebate Scheme.
Sheep and farmed goat producers and stock and station agents can apply for a 50% rebate to supplement the purchase and installation of eID systems and equipment for sheep and farmed goats. Applications opened for saleyards and processors in the sheep and farmed goat sector on 1 August 2023.
Before you apply, make sure to check the guidelines for producers and agents. These guidelines contain information about what you are eligible for and what to include in your application.
Funding under the scheme is limited and therefore early applications are encouraged.

When filling out your NVD please ensure you complete and answer each question - please also ensure you sign and date the NVD.
