Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 4th week of August.
Tallied numbers this week included -
3900 fat cattle
26500 lamb
8300 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly where a better quality yarding was on offer with all cattle carrying more weight than we have seen this year. The market was firm to dearer across all grades.
Feeder steers were 15 cents stronger with the medium weights selling from 375 – 446 cents, while the heavy weights reached a top of 428 cents. Medium weight feeder heifers sold from 332 – 363 cents, with the heavy weights making from 290 – 326 cents.
Grown steers and bullocks remained firm to sell from 320 – 382 cents, while the heavy grown heifers sold from 290 – 362 cents.
Cows gained 15 cents with the better D3/4 cows selling from 318 – 341 cents. The best heavy bull reached a top of 310 cents.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for some of their clients -The West family of Quicks Loop at Stuart Town, sold Angus steers for 510 cents, weighing 162kg to return $830.
Locally for Nat Lappa of ‘Rusty Downs’, who sold Angus cross steers for 360 cents, weighing 615kg to come back at $2214.
The McWhirter Family of ‘Springfield’ at Tooraweenah, sold Santa bullocks for 375 cents, weighing 720kg to return $2701.
To Trangie now for the O’Neill family of ‘Nellady’, who sold Hereford steers for 372 cents, weighing 443kg and they came back at $1650.
The McKay family of ‘Winnabri’, sold shorthorn cows for 330 cents, weighing a massive 709kg to come back at $2339.
And lastly for Clarry George of ‘Yulcarley Station’ at Bourke, who sold Hereford cross steers for 370 cents, weighing 315kg to return $1165.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now where numbers eased due to rainfall in some supply areas. A mixed yarding greeted all the regular buyers in a firm to slightly dearer market. News season lambs are now starting to hit the market as well as good runs of heavy crossbred and Merino lambs.
New season trade lambs sold from $180 - $195 while the heavy weights sold to a top of $255. Old season trade weights held firm and sold from $135 - $199 with skin length and presentation starting to really have an impact on prices across all grades.
Heavy lambs sold from $207 - $246 remaining firm while the extra heavy weights sold to a top of $285. Merino trades sold from $124 - $170 while the heavy weights reached a top of $216. The best heavy hoggets sold to $198.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for some of their clients -Kelvin Baker of ‘Ercildoon’ at Narromine, sold Aussie White lambs in a 3 score condition, to the domestic kill for $160.
Locally for Dusty Clatworthy of ‘Mia Mia’, who sold trade weight Aussie White lambs in a 3 score condition for $179.
Scott Howe of ‘Newark’ at Baradine, sold heavy crossbred lambs in a 4 score condition with an inch skin for $246.
To Tottenham now for the Cook Family of ‘Glenidol”, who sold heavy Merino lambs in a 3/4 score condition, with an 8 week skin for $190.
The Plummer Family of ‘Trigoona’, sold heavy 1st cross wether lambs in a 4 score condition, with a 6 week skin to the export markets for $260.
To Nyngan now for The Hoare family of ‘Bel-Air’, who sold SAMM cross lambs in a 3 score condition, with a 6 week skin for $150.
Peter & Debbie Pearce of ‘Gollenfield’, sold 1st cross wether lambs in a 3 score condition, with an inch skin for $155.
Lastly for The Dewhurst family of ‘Elmsley’ at Hermidale, who sold White Suffolk cross lambs in a 4 score condition, to the export orders for $196.
Into the mutton pens now where a plainer offering met the buyers in a strong market.
Light weight ewes sold from $37 - $68
Medium weight ewes sold from $72 - $108
Heavy weight ewes sold from $118 - $150
Light wethers sold from $47 - $70
Medium weight wethers sold from $81 - $119
Heavy weight wethers sold from $126 - $160
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for some of their clients -Greg & Vicki O’Connor of ‘Warren Downs’ at Wongarbon, sold 1st cross ewes in a 4/5 score condition, with an inch and a half skin for $146.
Stan Ellis of ‘Pinevale’ at Mogriguy, sold Merino ewes in a 3/4 score condition with an inch skin for $130.
Lastly for The Gibson Family of ‘Wilgadale’ at Girilambone, who sold Merino lambs in a 3 score condition with a 4 week skin for $113.

Sheep and goat electronic identification
Applications open for producers and agents
All eligible sectors can apply for the NSW Sheep and Goats eID Infrastructure Rebate Scheme.
Sheep and farmed goat producers and stock and station agents can apply for a 50% rebate to supplement the purchase and installation of eID systems and equipment for sheep and farmed goats. Applications opened for saleyards and processors in the sheep and farmed goat sector on 1 August 2023.
Before you apply, make sure to check the guidelines for producers and agents. These guidelines contain information about what you are eligible for and what to include in your application.
Funding under the scheme is limited and therefore early applications are encouraged.
