Fat Cattle Report

Good morning, this is Campbell Rose taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of March, 2025.

 Tallied numbers this week included –

5000 fat cattle 

15000 lambs and

  8300 mutton

 Into the cattle pens firstly, where numbers rose due to no rain falling as predicted.  It was a mixed yarding with good numbers of prime cattle in all sections.  All the usual buyers were present and some extra southern orders chasing weight creating a stronger feeder market.

 Young cattle to trade were firm to slightly cheaper.  With prime young steers selling from 290 - 386c/kg.  Young cattle to the restockers were firm, with quality being a factor.  Young steers sold to 442 cents and heifers reaching 342c/kg.

 Feeder steers were 6 to 12 cents stronger, selling from 295 – 426 cents.  Feeder heifers sold from 280 - 365c/kg.

 Grown steers and heifers were 5 to 10 cents dearer.  Prime grown steers sold from 319 - 388c/kg.  Prime grown heifers sold from 300 - 360c/kg.

 Cows were 15 to 20 cents dearer.  Prime heavyweight cows sold from 275 - 325c/kg. 2 and 3 score cows sold from 180 - 230c/kg.  PTIC cows to the restockers sold from 250 - 291c/kg. Heavy bulls were up to 10 cents stronger selling to 320c/kg.


Carter Lindsay and Weber sold the following cattle for some of their clients -

 Firstly, Viv White at Molong, sold vendor bred feeder Angus steers for 405 cents, weighing 442kg and returning $1793.

 Ian Bruce of ‘Kentore’ at Cumnock, sold heavy Angus feeder steers for 379 cents, weighing 545kg and returning $2066.

 Chris & Bec O’Malley of ‘Carinya’ at Narromine, sold feeder Shorthorn steers for 360 cents, weighing 425kg and returning $1530.

 The McWhirter Family of ‘Springfield’ at Tooraweenah, sold heavy Santa cows to the southern exports, they made 320 cents, weighing 690kg and returned $2210.

 And lastly, The Young Family of ‘Pinegrove’ at Nyngan, who sold heavy export heifers for 353 cents, weighing 670kg and returning $2366.


 Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now where it was a fair quality yarding with good numbers of heavy weight lambs and reasonable numbers of trade weight lambs.

 Lightweight lambs to the processors were firm, with the 2 score lambs under 18kg selling from $72 - $125.
Trade lambs were also up to $5 stronger, selling from $140 - $216.
Heavy weight lambs were firm, selling from $202 - $238  
The extra heavy’s over 30kg sold from $235 - $274.

Merino’s were firm with trade weights selling from $105 - $174.
While a pen of heavy Merino’s topped at $195.
Crossbred hoggets sold to $188, while Merino hoggets reached a top of $136.

 There were over 8000 mutton penned where most grades remained firm.  

 Merino ewes sold from $52 - $142.
Heavy crossbred ewes sold from $71 to $162.
Merino wethers sold from $85 - $109.
Restockers purchased some of the plainer condition ewes for $32 - $40.


 Carter Lindsay and Weber sold the following lambs and sheep for some of their clients -

 Firstly for John Blease of ‘Tanners Creek’ at Tomingley, who sold heavy Australian White lambs over 26kg for $208.

 The Whillock Family of ‘Maxland’ at Geurie, sold heavy crossbred lambs for $248.

 Richard and Cath Hoare of ‘Karabran’ at Nyngan, sold vendor bred SAMM cross Sheepmaster lambs for $142.

 And lastly for Greg and Donna Edwards of ‘Acme Downs’ at Bollon, who sold light Dorper lambs to export markets, in a 3 and 4 score condition for $149.
