Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 1st week of October, 2024. Tallied numbers this week included –
7500 fat cattle
24300 lamb
8300 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where there was a larger number than the previous week. It was a pretty good quality yarding with a selection of all grades suiting all buyers.
Young kill cattle were 10 cents cheaper, with prime steer yearlings topping at 371c/kg and the heifer portion at 328c/kg. Feeder steers were 10 – 15 cents cheaper selling from 320 - 400c/kg. Feeder heifers were also 10 – 15 cents cheaper making from 260 - 334c/kg.
Grown steers were 10 cents cheaper with the prime grown steers making 320 – 372c/kg, while the heifer portion were 5 cents cheaper topping at 356c/kg.
Cows were 5 – 10 cents cheaper, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows selling from 210 - 266c/kg, while the prime heavy weights made 270 - 324c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Firstly to Girilambone for the Elder family of “Woorndoo”, who sold well bred Droughtmaster cross steers to the feed orders for 366 cents, they weighed 502kg making $1838.
Down the highway to Nyngan for the Young family of “Pinegrove”, who sold fat Angus cows that brought 320 cents, they weighed 741kg bringing $2372.
Across to Warren for the McLaughlin family of “Merryanbone North”, who sold heavy weight Angus cross steers weighing 640kg for 377 cents and coming back at $2414.
Lastly locally for the Koerstz family, who sold well bred Angus steers to the heavy feed orders weighing 538kg and making 379 cents to come back at $2042.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where it was a mixed quality yarding with good runs of well finished heavy weight lambs alongside a fair selection of trade weights.
Trade weight lambs were sold around firm. Trade weight suckers made from $166 - $209 while the heavy weights topped at $230 with all suckers averaging between 800 – 840c/kg.
Old trade weight old lambs 20kg – 24kg made $140 - $184 to average around 775c/kg. Heavy weight lambs were also unchanged with old lambs 24kg – 30kg selling from $192 - $247, with lambs over 30kg topping out at $317 to average 800c/kg.
Merino lambs were unchanged with trade weight Merino lambs selling from $125 - $153 or between 650 – 670c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Firstly to Nyngan for the Young family of “Pinegrove”, who sold heavy weight crossbred lambs in a 4 score condition, with a half inch skin to the local exporter for $265.
Across to Tottenham now for the Plummer family of “Trigoona”, who sold well bred Merino wether lambs with an inch skin, in a fresh 2 & 3 score condition for $142.
Lastly locally for the Quinn family of “Caroo”, who sold well bred Aussie White lambs in a fresh 2 & 3 score condition, to the southern exporters for $160.
Into the mutton pens now, where there were more numbers penned in a better quality yarding that saw the market hold firm to slightly dearer.
Merino ewes sold from $50 - $120 while the crossbred ewes brought $60 - $132 with most mutton selling between 300 – 340c/kg.

Just a reminder that the last cattle sale of the year will be Thursday the 12th of December and the final sheep sale will be Monday the 16th of December.
The first sales of the New Year will be a sheep sale on Monday the 6th of January 2025 and the first cattle sale will be Thursday the 9th of January 2025.

Sheep and goat electronic identification
Applications open for producers and agents
All eligible sectors can apply for the NSW Sheep and Goats eID Infrastructure Rebate Scheme.
Sheep and farmed goat producers and stock and station agents can apply for a 50% rebate to supplement the purchase and installation of eID systems and equipment for sheep and farmed goats. Applications opened for saleyards and processors in the sheep and farmed goat sector on 1 August 2023.
Before you apply, make sure to check the guidelines for producers and agents. These guidelines contain information about what you are eligible for and what to include in your application.
Funding under the scheme is limited and therefore early applications are encouraged.

When filling out your NVD please ensure you complete and answer each question - please also ensure you sign and date the NVD.
If you make a mistake please initial it.
It is a legal requirement that the NVD is filled out correctly each time you sell livestock.
