Fat Cattle Report

Good morning, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 3rd week of March. 

Tallied numbers this week included –

 6000 fat cattle
22000 lambs and
15000 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly where numbers increased again following the disappointment of little to no rain from Cyclone Alfred.  There were good runs of feeder cattle but limited numbers of heavy kill cattle.  Weaner cattle were well supplied and cows were back in numbers.  All the usual buyers were in attendance and operating.

Prime yearlings lost 5 cents to sell from 280 - 375 cents.  Feeder steers and heifers were 15 - 20 cents cheaper, with the crossbred cattle affected the most. Feeder steers sold from 330 - 404 cents while feeder heifers sold from 278 - 352 cents.

Grown steers and bullocks were 13 cents better selling from 350 - 394 cents, while grown heifers remained firm to sell from 310 - 362 cents.  Cows remained firm with the better D3/4 cows selling from 284 - 300 cents.  The best heavy bull reached a top of 320 cents.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for some of our clients -

Locally in Dubbo for David Hearn of ‘San Diego’, who sold Angus steers to the feedlot for 402 cents, weighing 480kg to come back at $1933.

The Lappa Family of ‘Aunt Jude’, sold Angus steers for 404 cents, weighing 496kg to return $2006.

Giulio Lappa of ‘Belowrie’ at Tomingley, sold Angus steers for 394 cents, weighing 600kg to return $2366.

The Markey family of ‘Lancelot’ at Tooraweenah, sold Angus steers for 398 cents, weighing 520kg to return $2070.

The O’Neill family of ‘Nellady’ at Trangie, sold Hereford cows for 293 cents, weighing 728kg to come back at $2136.

The Weber family of ‘Chelsea’ at Tottenham, sold Angus heifers for 297 cents, they weighed 401kgsto return $1191.

To the Nyngan district now for David Green of  “Belarbone”, who sold Angus cross steers for 330 cents, weighing 511kg to return $1689. 

The Ward Family of ‘Thorndale’, sold Angus steers for 403 cents, weighing 510kg to come back at $2056

The Keating Family of ‘Neurie Plains’, sold Red Angus cross heifers for 345 cents, they weighed 625kg to return $2157.

The Gibson Family of ‘Wilgadale’, sold Hereford cross steers for 345 cents, weighing 478kg to return $1651.

And lastly for the Young Family of ‘Pinegrove’, who sold Angus steers for 360 cents, weighing 484kg to return $1743.


Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now where we are continuing to see increased numbers of light and trade weight lambs with limited numbers of heavy and extra heavy lambs.  All the usual buyers were in attendance and operating in a market that was up and down depending of weight and cover.

Light weight lambs lost $5 to sell from $85 - $135
Trade lambs finished the day $7 softer selling from $143 - $181
Heavy trade weight lambs remained firm to sell from $192 - $210
Heavy lambs gained $4 to sell from $220 - $242
Extra heavy lambs lifted $6 to sell from $250 - $280.

Light Merino lambs were well supplied and sold from $50 - $90
Trade weight Merino lambs lifted $5 selling from $111 - $167
Heavy weight Merino lambs sold from $192 - $215.

Hoggets sold to strong demand, selling to a top of $183.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for some of our clients -

Locally for the Howard Family, who sold young Aussie White lambs in a 2 score condition for $106.

Jack Quinn of ‘Caroo’, sold Dorper lambs in a 2/3 score condition for $145.

The O’Brien family of ‘Glenhaven’, sold White Dorper lambs in a 4 score condition to the export orders for $215.

The Whillock Family of ‘Maxland’ at Geurie, sold crossbred lambs in a 3/4 score condition with an inch skin for $225.

The Walters Family of ‘Plain Creek’ at Wongarbon, sold crossbred lambs in a 3/4 score condition with an inch skin for $222.

The Whale family of ‘Glenroy’ at Wellington, sold crossbred lambs in a 3 score condition with an 8 week skin for $200.

And lastly for The Hoare family of ‘Karabran’ at Nyngan, who sold Sheep Master cross lambs in a 3 score condition, to the light kill orders for $132.

Into the mutton pens now where numbers lifted and prices remained strong.

Light ewes lost $8 and sold from $22 -$56
Medium weight ewes sold from $77 - $100
Heavy weight ewes sold from $108 - $147
Extra heavy ewes sold from $156 - $177.

Light wethers sold from $48 - $66
Medium weight wethers sold from $86 - $118
Heavy weight wethers sold from $128 - $162 with a pen of extra heavy wethers selling to $180.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for some of our clients -

The Stendell family of ‘Ben Avon’ at Brewarrina, sold Merino ewes in a 3 score condition, with a 6 week skin for $130.

And for The Davis Family of ‘Kahmoo’ at Bourke, who sold Merino ewes in a 3 score condition, with an inch skin for $130.
