Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon , this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of September.

Tallied numbers this week,
6800 fat cattle
23400 lambs
8000 mutton.

Into the cattle pens firstly where numbers keep rolling in with plenty of cattle lacking finish in all sections. All the usual buyers were operating with additional restocker activity from the north and south.

Young cattle to the trade were a little dearer with prime vealers selling to 270c/kg. Prime yearlings sold from 160c - 235c/kg. Feeder steers lifted slightly, 5 cents to range from 174c - 298c/kg while the feeder heifers sold from 140c - 223c/kg. Young cattle to the restocker were 20 cents better in places with young steers selling to 265c/kg and young he aiders reaching 220c/kg,

Grown steers finished firm on last weeks rates and ranged from 200c - 290c/kg, with the grown heifers selling from 210c - 265c/kg. Cows were 25 cents cheaper this week. The better finished D3/4 cows sold from 175c - 216c/kg. The best heavy bull reached a top of 220c/kg.


Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now where numbers lifted and condition was lacking. We are seeing plenty of long wool lambs lacking condition in both the xb and merino sections and these large numbers are having an enormous impact of prices being offered and received.

Trade lambs being presented in a neat short skin with cover remained firm to sell from $75 - $101. Trade weight wooly lambs are selling from $15 - $45. Trade and Heavy weight new season lambs sold from $80 - $123.  Heavy weight short skin lambs ranged from $106 - $140. Trade weight merino lambs, $13 - $68 while heavy merino lambs topped out at $98. The best heavy hoggets reached a top of $85.

Into the mutton pens now where all grades were $10 cheaper.

Light ewes sold from $8 - $22
Medium weight ewes sold from $25 - $40
Heavy weight ewes sold from $55 - $70.

Light wethers sold from $20 - $34
Medium weight wethers sold from $37 - $46
Heavy wethers sold from $49 - $63
