Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon everybody, this is John Lindsay with this week’s livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of June 2023.  Tallied numbers this week included –

  2300 fat cattle
12500 lambs and
  8000 sheep

Into the cattle pens firstly where there was a smaller number yarding on offer on the back of forecasted rain.  All categories were well represented on what was a fully firm to dearer market and the smaller number certainly helped.

Light vealer heifers to restockers, 200-356 cents with the steer portion 240-280 cents for the Bos Indicus drafts, with the British drafts 270-380 cents.

Yearling steers under 400kg to feedlotters 220-270 cents for the Bos Indicus drafts with the better end being Angus cross making up to 320 cents, with the British drafts, mainly Angus, 280-368 cents.  Heavier drafts over 400kg to feed, 296-360 cents for the British drafts, 255-280 cents for the crossy drafts.

Yearling heifers under 400kg to feedlotters 226-250 cents for the plainer types, with feeder drafts 230-306 cents, with plenty in the late 200’s and better British drafts making up to 330 cents, with heavier drafts over 400kg to feed 246-336 cents with plenty around that 285 cent mark, with kill types in much shorter supply 255-310 cents.

Into export sales, feeder steers over 500kg 310-330 cents, with limited kill types 240-290 cents for the older end and up to 315 cents on the younger end. Light weight plain boner cows 100-120 cents, medium weights 168-200 cents with a lot around 185 cents, with heavy high yielding cows seen most sales between 196 and 220 cents.


Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

To the lamb pens now, where there was a slightly larger yarding than last week. The market was only just firm, lightweight kill lambs were surprisingly up to $10 dearer, the good quality heavy export lambs this week up to $10 cheaper.

Into crossbred sales firstly with light weight kill types which were stronger up to 16 kgs dressed $65-$76
Light trade $75-$83
Medium trade $95-$136
Heavy trade $135-$155
Light export $146-$176 with drafts up to 30kg dressed $156-$193
With super heavies over 30kg dressed $200-$210

To Merino sales, light kill types to restockers $35-$45
Kill types up to 20kg dressed $60 -$112 with plenty around that $90–$100 mark
With export weights seeing sales $140-$155

Carter Lindsay & Weber had the following lamb results for their clients –

For Darren Smith at Narromine, who sold export weight 2nd cross lambs in a 3 score condition, with a very tidy ½ inch skin for $184.

Kel Baker off “Ercildoon”, sold export weight Aussie White lambs in a 3 score condition for $154.

Lastly at Warren for the McKay family off “Winnabri”, who sold very tidy Merino lambs to the trade orders with a 6 week skin for $93.

Across to the mutton pens where the market was $5-$10 dearer.

Light boner ewes to restockers $15-$37  
Boner ewes $36-$76  
Medium weights $65-$115,
With export weights $115-$145 for Merino’s with plenty around that $125-$130 mark, or $94-$136 for Dorper’s.
Super heavies over 30kg dressed $136-$170 for crossbreds or $140-$159 for Merino’s.

Boner wethers $48-$95
Medium weights $79-$115
With export weights $130-$140 for crossbreds, or $104-$136 for Merino’s.
