Fat Cattle Report

Good morning, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 1st week of August, 2023.  Tallied numbers this week included –

  3800 fat cattle
17100 lambs and
  9500 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, were a mixed yarding greeted buyers.  There were good runs of young cattle to suit the feeders and processors.  Grown steers and heifers were well supplied, as were cows.  There are still plenty of plainer unfinished cattle being offered in a market that lifted and fell depending on quality and breed.

Prime yearlings sold from 270 - 370c/kg.  Light to medium weight feeder steers were 5 cents dearer selling from 280 - 334c/kg, while the heavy feeders were 3 cents cheaper ranging from 270 - 356c/kg.  Feeder heifers were 10 cents cheaper selling from 200 - 318 cents. Restockers are showing a little bit of interest on British bred steers yet the Bos Indicus steers and any restocker heifers are struggling to find competition.

Grown steers sold from 240 - 307c/kg, while the heifers sold from 255 - 270c/kg.  Cows were 8 cents dearer with the better D3/4 cows selling from 220 - 268c/kg.  The best heavy bull reached a top of 226c/kg.

Just a couple of quick quotes for Carter Lindsay & Weber clients - out of Nyngan for John and Mary Burley of ‘Woodlands Station’, who sold Speckle Park cows for 248 cents, weighing 607kg to return $1507.
