Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Good morning everybody, this is John Lindsay with only the Lamb & Sheep report this week with no Prime cattle sale due to the Anzac Day Public Holiday.
This week there was a smaller yarding of 11000 lambs & 6500 mutton.
To the lambs firstly where there was a smaller yarding with a pretty tough market the week prior particularly on the secondary drafts regardless of breed. However, this week the market was a little brighter on the lighter weights & solid for well finished lambs particularly on heavy trade & export weights.
To crossbred sales firstly with light kill types up to 16kg dressed & mainly Dorpers $60 - $75
Up to 18kg dressed $80 - $95
Light trade $ 88 - $123
Medium trade $ 118 -$132
Heavy trade / light export $ 140 - $167
Export weights $ 160 - $180
With drafts up to 30kg dressed $190 - $ 221 but very good
With super heavies over 30kg dressed in shorter supply but very very good $215 - $229.
To Merino sales now, Lightweights up to 16kg $45 - $50
Light trade weights up to 20 kg dressed $ 70 - $100 & mainly around that $90 mark.
Medium trade $102 - $110
With heavy weights in short supply, but what was there was very good making up to $168, they were estimated to dress up to 26kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber had the following lamb results for clients this week -
Firstly locally for the Whillock family of “Maxland” at Geurie, who sold 2nd cross export weight lambs in a 3 score condition, with a very fresh ¼ inch skin and these top lambs made $200.
At Coonamble for the Altus family of “Fermoy”, who sold very heavy Aussie White lambs in a 4 score condition and these top lambs made $201.
At Warren for the McKay family of “Winnabri”, who sold light export 1st cross lambs in a 3 score condition, with a ¼ inch skin and these top lambs made 173.
To Nyngan for the Hoare family of “Karabran“, who sold Sheep Master / SAMM cross lambs to the light exporters with an inch skin and these tidy long lean lambs made $130.
While for a Northern vendor, light export weight Dorper lambs in a well rounded 3 score condition made $150.
Into the mutton pens now, where the market was fully firm to slightly dearer for all categories.
Light boner ewes $22 - $40
Boner ewes $35 - $48
Medium weights $ 40 - $ 77 for Merino’s or $ 42 - $60 for crossbreds
Export weights $62 - $ 80 for Merino’s, with the longer skins $70 - $112 and mainly around the $90’s
With super heavies over 30kg dressed and mainly Aussie Whites $75 - $105.
Just some quick quotes for Carter Lindsay & Weber clients this week -
The Whillock family sold export weight 1st cross ewes and very heavy with a 1 ½ inch skin, in a 4 score condition and these top ewes made $98.
On the same truck as the lambs for the Altus family from Coonamble, very heavy Aussie White ewes to the exporters topped at $105.
While at Tottenham for the Plummer family of “Trigoona”, who sold heavy trade weight Merino ewes with a 1 ½ inch skin for $68.

Sheep and goat electronic identification
Applications open for producers and agents
All eligible sectors can apply for the NSW Sheep and Goats eID Infrastructure Rebate Scheme.
Sheep and farmed goat producers and stock and station agents can apply for a 50% rebate to supplement the purchase and installation of eID systems and equipment for sheep and farmed goats. Applications opened for saleyards and processors in the sheep and farmed goat sector on 1 August 2023.
Before you apply, make sure to check the guidelines for producers and agents. These guidelines contain information about what you are eligible for and what to include in your application.
Funding under the scheme is limited and therefore early applications are encouraged.
Applications will be accepted until 31 January 2024 for processors and saleyards and 31 March 2024 for primary producers and agents, or until program funding is exhausted.
