Weekly Reports

Fat Cattle Report

Good morning, this is Campbell Rose taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the last week of January 2025, with no lamb sale this week due to the Australia Day public holiday.

There was a total of 3060 fat cattle yarded.

Into the cattle pens, with hot conditions around and cheaper markets earlier in the week, numbers were reduced.  It was a much plainer quality yarding with the bulk of the numbers coming in from South Australia, and western areas of NSW.  Cattle were unlike what we have seen in the previous weeks, with large quantities lacking freshness and weight.

Young cattle to trade were firm with prime young steers selling from 250 - 330c/kg.  Young cattle to the restockers were cheaper, with quality being a factor.

Young steers sold to 426 cents and heifers reaching 368c/kg.

Feeder steers held firm to slightly dearer trends while heifers were 9 cents cheaper.  Feeder steers sold from 310 - 388c/kg, and heifers sold from 255 - 350c/kg.

There were very limited quality grown cattle yarded, with grown steers being 10 cents cheaper, although heifers rose 5 cents.  Prime grown steers sold from 270 - 354c/kg.  Prime grown heifers sold from 280 - 324c/kg.

Heavy weight cows were back 8 cents this week, selling from 268 - 299c/kg. Secondary cows held firm, selling from 233 - 275c/kg.  Bulls were cheaper selling to a top of 301 cents.

Carter Lindsay and Weber sold the following cattle for some of their clients -

Firstly, Tim and Carmel Koerstz of “Warrie” at Dubbo, who sold quality heavy Angus feeder steers for 350 cents, weighing 561kg and returning $1966.

Jeremy and Audrey Weston of ‘Nihill Gully’ at Warren, sold vendor bred, Angus feeder steers for 370 cents, weighing 447kg and returning $1654.

John and Mary Burley, of ‘Woodlands Station’ at Nyngan, sold vendor bred, Outwest Angus blood steers straight off the cow for 380 cents, weighing 388kg and returning $1476.

And lastly, for Richard and Dixie Stendell of ‘Ben Avon’ at Brewarrina, who sold heavy Santa cows for 295 cents, weighing 695kg and returning $2051.
