Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon everybody, this is John Lindsay with a look at this weeks livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 3rd week of October.
Tallied numbers this week included –
4500 fat cattle
13500 lambs
7000 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where there was a smaller number on offer, with most categories represented on what was a fully firm market for most categories with cows a little bit brighter this week.
Light vealer steers to restockers 130-180 cents, with heavier drafts 150-180 cents, with the British drafts managing to get over 200 cents.
Light vealer heifers under 200kg live to restockers 108-155 cents, with a big majority in the 130 cent bracket, with heavier drafts 120-150 cents.
Yearling steers under 400kg to feedlotters 140-170 cents for the crossy types or 180-200 and up to 220 cents for the British drafts, with the top end being Angus.
Heavier drafts over 400kg to feedlotters saw sales between 170-190 cents mainly, with the fresher forward drafts making over 210 cents and like the lighter drafts they were mainly Angus drafts.
Yearling heifers under 400kg to kill were a little brighter, seeing sales between 140-170 cents, with the heavier drafts also brighter 150-170 cents generally with the fresher rounder drafts seeing sales up to 180 cents.
Into export sales, bullocks were in short supply and mainly being 4 tooths and up and seeing sales between 170-185 cents, with feeder drafts 160-185 cents, with the fresher forward mainly Angus drafts creeping up to the 190’s.
Light boner cows 110-140 cents, medium weights 135-165 cents, with heavy high yielding cows seeing most sales between 160-180 cents, with some heavy Charolais cross cows making up to 190 cents, with the top price just managing to reach 200 cents.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens, were there was a smaller number on offer, with all categories represented on what was a dearer market for most categories, which was a nice surprise, seeing rises between $5 and $8.
Into suckers firstly, with light weights to restockers $35-$58
Medium weights to kill up to 20kg dressed $65-$79
Trade weights $85-$113
With export weights $90-$118.
To older crossbred sales, light weights up to 18kg dressed $45-$55
Light trade $59-$68 for the first cross types with the rounder drafts $65-$86
Medium trade up to 22kg dressed $77-$108 with a big majority around that $90 mark
Light export $95-$121 but mainly around $100
Export weights up to 30kg dressed $115-$127
With super heavies up to 30kg dressed $121-$135 and this week topping at $161 for a pen of lambs estimated to weigh well over 30kg dressed.
To Merino sales, light restocker types up to 16kg dressed $20-$33
Up to 18kg dressed $22-$49 and mainly around the $40 mark
Light trade $43-$5,
Medium trade $64-$76
Light export $63-$85
With export weights in limited supply but good saw sales between $110-$170
Into the mutton pens, were there was a decent yarding, however the market was only just firm to $5 cheaper, on what was again another tough day.
Light boner ewes $5-$12
Boner ewes $11-$18
Medium weights $18-$25 for Merino’s or $20-$26 for crossbreds
With export weights $23-$25 for Merino’s or $18-$36 for crossbreds
With super heavies up to 30kg dressed and mainly all being Merino’s $30-$46 with plenty around the $40 mark.
Light boner wethers $17-$24
Medium weights $15-$23
With export weights $34-$42.

Sheep and goat electronic identification
Applications open for producers and agents
All eligible sectors can apply for the NSW Sheep and Goats eID Infrastructure Rebate Scheme.
Sheep and farmed goat producers and stock and station agents can apply for a 50% rebate to supplement the purchase and installation of eID systems and equipment for sheep and farmed goats. Applications opened for saleyards and processors in the sheep and farmed goat sector on 1 August 2023.
Before you apply, make sure to check the guidelines for producers and agents. These guidelines contain information about what you are eligible for and what to include in your application.
Funding under the scheme is limited and therefore early applications are encouraged.
Applications will be accepted until 31 January 2024 for processors and saleyards and 31 March 2024 for primary producers and agents, or until program funding is exhausted.
