Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon, this is Campbell Rose taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 3rd week of February, 2025.  Tallied numbers this week included –

 5800 fat cattle 
12700 lambs and
11500 mutton

 Into the cattle pens firstly, where numbers rose and the red hot cow market was a highlight. It was a fair quality yarding with agents yarding plenty of cattle with weight and cover.  All usual buyers were present and some extra southern orders created the cow market to gain stronger trends. 

 Young cattle to trade were dearer with prime young steers selling from 300 - 378c/kg. Young cattle to the restockers were firm, with quality being a factor. Young steers sold to 440 cents and heifers reaching 346c/kg.  

 Feeder steers held firm to slightly dearer trends while heifers were 14 cents dearer.  Feeder steers sold from 290 - 386c/kg, and heifers sold from 280 - 368c/kg.

 Grown steers and heifers were 5 – 10 cents dearer.  Prime grown steers sold from 319 - 380c/kg.  Prime grown heifers sold from 300 - 348c/kg.

 The cow job was up to 30 cents dearer.  Prime heavyweight cows sold from 310 - 343c/kg.  2 and 3 score cows sold from 260 - 315c/kg.   Cows to the restockers sold from 210 - 277c/kg.

 Heavy bulls were up to 15 cents stronger selling to 326c/kg. Young bulls to feed sold from 297 - 328c/kg.


 

Carter Lindsay and Weber sold the following cattle for some of their clients -

Firstly, Mark Young of ‘Narranvale’ at Coolah, who sold heavy Angus cross steers for 340 cents, weighing 519kg and returning $1766.

 David Hearn of ‘San Diego’ at Narromine, sold Angus feeder steers 366 cents, weighing 476kg and returning $1745.

 To Warren for Jarrard and Meg Noonan of ‘Purnim’, who sold heavy Angus feeder steers for 358 cents, weighing 530kg and returning $1898.

 And lastly, The Denston Family of ‘Bowen Park’, sold prime heavy Angus cows for 327 cents, weighing 706kg and returning $2311.


 Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now, where numbers remained similar to last week.  It was a fair quality yarding with good numbers of heavy weight lambs and only limited numbers of ideal trade weights. 

 Lightweight lambs to the processors were $6 cheaper, with the 2 score lambs under 18kg selling from $65 - $117.  

Trade lambs were also up to $5 stronger, selling from $145 - $216.

Heavy weight lambs were firm, selling from $190 - $240 and the extra heavy’s over 30kg sold to a top of $270.

 Merinos were $3 - $5 stronger with trade weights selling from $92 - $148. While a pen of heavy Merinos topped at $183.

Hoggets sold to $199.

 Mutton numbers lifted and showed a firm if not slightly stronger market.

 Merino ewes sold from $52 - $153. Heavy crossbred ewes sold from $71 - $163.

Merino wethers sold from $78 - $160. 


 

Carter Lindsay and Weber sold the following lambs and sheep for some of their clients -

 Firstly, Matt and Kylie Whale of ‘Glenroy’ at Wellington, who sold crossbred ewes to local exports for $116.

 The Whillock Family of ‘Maxland’ at Geurie, sold heavy crossbred lambs for $232.

 The McKay Family of ‘Winnabri’ at Trangie, sold trade crossbred lambs for $190.  

 And lastly, Richard and Cath Hoare of ‘Karabran’ at Nyngan, who sold heavy SAMM ewes for $132.
