Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon everybody, this is John Lindsay with a look at this week’s livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of February 2024.

Tallied numbers this week included -

4200 cattle
12500 lambs and
11000 sheep

Into the cattle pens firstly where there was another decent number yarded on what was a stronger market for all categories, although I do believe it was a better quality yarding than last week which certainly helped.

Vealer steers to restockers were in shorter supply and mainly to restockers seeing sales between 368 - 428 cents, with the heifer portion 328 - 386 cents on the lighter weights.

Yearling steers under 400kg to feedlotters 320 - 388 cents and mainly around that 370 cent mark, with heavier drafts up to 500kg 335 - 385 cents with that top end being the Angus drafts but the crossbred drafts were fresh and did reflect the better prices.

Yearling heifers were also strong to feedlotters seeing rises of mainly 10 - 15 cents with drafts up to 400kg 290 - 325 cents with the plainer types 250 - 270 cents.  Heavier drafts up to 500kg to feeders 300 - 328 cents or 293 - 320 cents to kill but again some quality drafts on offer.

To the export cattle which were definitely stronger of at least 10 cents and could have been more on steers.  Heavy feeders over 500kg 340-365 cents. Young bullocks 336 - 367 cents with heavy heifers 300 - 345 cents.
Boner cows 195 - 220 cents, medium weight cows 240 - 275 cents with heavy high yielding cows 275 - 310 cents, but had to be good to get over 300 cents.

Carter Lindsay & Weber had the following results for cattle clients this week -
