Fat Cattle Report
Good morning everybody, this is John Lindsay with a look at only the cattle market this week due to the October long weekend.
With some welcomed rain in the drawing district – numbers were back and this week agents yarded just shy of 2000 cattle.
Most categories were well represented but obviously in smaller portions. The market in general was dearer for most categories thanks to the smaller number and let’s hope they hang on.
Light vealer steers to restockers 120 to 228 cents, with heavier drafts 175 to 236 cents with a big majority around 200 cents. Light vealer heifers under 200kg to restockers 90 to 160 cents, with the majority around the 130 cent mark, with heavier drafts 128 to 156 cents – also to restockers, with an isolated kill sale seeing some prime heifers making up to 280 cents.
Yearling steers under 300kg to feedlotters 176 to 200 cents – but they were shorter supplied, with restocker drafts 175 to 238 cents with the majority around the 210 cent mark. Heavier drafts over 300kg to feeders 175 to 248 cents, with a small selection of kill drafts 170 to 292 cents, however most fell around that 230 cents mark. Heavier drafts over 400kg to feed 190 to 214 cents, but 200 cents seems to be the hurdle to get over. Yearling heifers under 300kg to restockers 110 to 142 cents, heavier drafts over 300kg to feed 142 to 226 cents, with the majority around that 200 cents and for heifers that is definitely brighter. Drafts over 400kg to feed 170 to 221 cents.
Into export sales, heavy feeder steers were in shorter supply but seeing sales between 168 and 248 cents and mainly around that 220 cent mark, with heavier drafts to kill in short supply but seeing sales between 170 to 230 cents. Export weight heifers – all to kill saw most sales between 185 and 202 cents, but bearing in mind what was yarded was small, but they were very good.
Cows were definitely brighter, light boner cows to restockers 95 to 128 cents, medium weight cows to kill 125 to 171 cents, but mainly around the 145 cent mark, with heavy high yielding cows seeing most sales between 146 and 180 cents and topping at 193 cents.
Well that about wraps it up for this week, with the usual program back on next week in Dubbo.
So until next week ……………………… Bye
