Weekly Reports

Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of November.

Tallied numbers this week
3510 fat cattle,
12000 lambs
3860 mutton.

Into the cattle pens firstly where despite some heavy falls of rain in some parts of the supply area, numbers increased. It was a yarding of mostly finished cattle which we have not seen for some time and this was reflected in the price rise across all categories.

Young cattle to the trade were 15 cents dearer, with prime vealers selling to a top of 208c/kg. Prime yearlings sold from 185c - 235c/kg. Feeder steers were 20 cents better and sold from 180c - 235c/kg with feeder heifers following suit and lifting 15 cents to sell from 158c - 228c/kg. Young cattle to the restocker were 50 cents dearer with young steers selling up to 300c/kg and young heifers selling to 232c/kg.

Grown steers were 15 cents better to range from 180c - 229c/kg, while grown heifers lifted 8 cents to sell from 170c - 207c/kg. Cows were 11 cents dearer with the better finished D3/4 cows selling from 162c - 209c/kg. The best heavy bull reached a top of 204 cents.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now where numbers were back and quality was mixed. There are plenty of lambs still lacking finish which is expected given the season and only limited pens of trade and heavy weights.

Lightweight lambs to the processors lost $13 to sell from $20 - $54. Trade weight new season lambs lost $6 to sell from $48 - $88 while heavyweight new season lambs sold from $92 - $115. Trade weight old season lambs were $10 cheaper selling from $44 - $96. Heavyweights old season lambs remained firm to sell from $100 - $156. Merino lambs fluctuated in price competition with sporadic bidding not helping the cause as the trade weights sold from $30 - $86.

Into the mutton pens now where all grades were cheaper.
Light ewes sold from $2 - $14
Medium weight ewes sold from $19 - $28
Heavy weight ewes sold from $31 - $45

Light wethers sold from $13 - $20
Medium weight wethers sold from $22 - $33
Heavy wethers sold from $34 - $48

Well that about wraps it up for another week………………………………bye……..
