Fat Cattle Report
Good morning, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the first week of August, 2024. Tallied numbers this week included -
5200 fat cattle
30000 lambs
11000 mutton
1700 store cattle
Into the cattle pens firstly, where another quality yarding increased competition at the rail with all categories well supplied and selling to a dearer trend.
Feeder steers were 10 cents stronger selling from 330 - 432 cents, while feeder heifers sold from 310 - 350 cents.
Grown steers sold to stronger demand, making from 377 - 406 cents, some 18 cents better than last week.
Grown heifers jumped 25 cents in places to sell from 324 - 384 cents.
Cows gained 8 cents for the better D3/4 cows and sold from 280 - 338 cents.
The best heavy bull reached a top of 270 cents.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for some of their clients -
Craig and Kerry Walters of ‘Plain Creek’ at Wongarbon, sold Angus steers for 428 cents, they weighed 503kg to return $2154.
Locally for Paul and Carmel Quinn of ‘Caroo’ at Dubbo, who sold Angus steers for 428 cents, weighing 475kg to come back at $2033.
The Weber family of ‘Chelsea’ at Tottenham, sold Angus steers for 400 cents, they weighed 350kg to return $1403.
To Nyngan for John and Mary Burley of ‘Woodlands Station’, who sold Angus steers for 374 cents, weighing 338kg to return $1268.
And lastly for Nugget and Kay Carter of ‘Birrimba’, who sold Santa Gertrudis steers for 381 cents, they weighed 362kg to return $1381.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now where numbers eased, as did the market. Heavy lambs were $8 - $15 cheaper while the lighter lambs looked to be $15 - $20 cheaper.
Trade weight lambs sold from $140 - $180, while the heavy trade weights sold from $185 - $217.
Heavy lambs ranged from $190 - $234 while the extra heavy weights sold from $239 - $272.
Lighter lambs to the kill sold from $108 - $130.
The best heavy hoggets reached a top of $200.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for some of their clients -
Brad and Sophie Cook of ‘Donola’ at Tottenham, sold heavy 1st cross lambs in a 3/4 score condition with a 6 week skin for $225.
To Nyngan now for Ben Bright of ‘Neillys’, who sold Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition to the domestic kill for $160.
The Hoare family of ‘Bel - Air’, sold 1st cross SAMM lambs in a 3 score condition, with a 6 week skin for $168.
And for the Dewhurst family of ‘Elmsley’, who sold 1st cross Suffolk lambs in a 3/4 score condition, with an inch skin to the export orders for $217.
Into the mutton pens now where prices remained firm on last week’s rates.
Light ewes sold from $43 - $74
Medium weight ewes sold from $82 - $112
Heavy weight ewes sold from $118 - $138
Light wethers sold from $52 - $81
Medium weight wethers sold from $83 - $121
Heavy wethers sold from $128 - $155.

Sheep and goat electronic identification
Applications open for producers and agents
All eligible sectors can apply for the NSW Sheep and Goats eID Infrastructure Rebate Scheme.
Sheep and farmed goat producers and stock and station agents can apply for a 50% rebate to supplement the purchase and installation of eID systems and equipment for sheep and farmed goats. Applications opened for saleyards and processors in the sheep and farmed goat sector on 1 August 2023.
Before you apply, make sure to check the guidelines for producers and agents. These guidelines contain information about what you are eligible for and what to include in your application.
Funding under the scheme is limited and therefore early applications are encouraged.

When filling out your NVD please ensure you complete and answer each question - please also ensure you sign and date the NVD.
If you make a mistake please initial it.
It is a legal requirement that the NVD is filled out correctly each time you sell livestock.
