Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of July 2023.  Tallied numbers this week included -  

  3200 fat cattle
12000 lambs and
  3400 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly were numbers lifted by 2200 head following a wet week.  Quality throughout the yarding was fair, however there are still runs of cattle lacking condition.

Young cattle to the trade lifted 10 cents, with prime vealers selling to 318c/kg.  Prime yearlings 280 – 362 cents.  Light feeder cattle had a small rise in price, however heavy feeder steers and all feeder heifers lost 6 cents.  Feeder steers sold from 292 - 366c/kg, while the heifers sold from 218 - 310c/kg.  Restockers were active with light weight steers selling to 396 cents and heifers reaching 300c/kg.

Grown steers and heifers remained firm, with the steers selling to 310 cents and the heifers reaching 280c/kg.  Cows also remained firm with the prime heavy weights selling from 212 - 244c/kg.  The best heavy bull reached a top of 230c/kg.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for some of their clients -

Locally for the Skinner family of ‘Wembley Park’ at Dubbo, who sold Fresian cows for 213 cents, weighing 639kg to come back at $1363.

The Clarke family of ‘Mehruda’ at Bakers Swamp, sold Angus cows for 236 cents, weighing an impressive 745kg to return $1759.

Rod and Kay Crothers of ‘Grandchester’ at Mendooran, sold Limousin heifers for 362 cents, weighing 482kg to return $1747.

David Hearn of ‘San Diego’ at Narromine, sold Angus steers for 324 cents, weighing 502kg to come back at $1629.

The Anderson Family of ‘Mallawa’ at Narromine, sold Angus steers for 330 cents, weighing 512kg to return $1692.

And lastly for John and Mary Burley of ‘Woodlands Station’ at Nyngan, who sold Angus cross steer weaners to the restocker for a sale topping 396 cents, weighing 256kg to return $1017.


Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now where we are seeing a very mixed offering week to week.  Some well finished heavy and trade weights along with lightweight unfinished lambs and plenty of hoggets.

Lightweight lambs to the processors gained $5 to sell from $55 - $80, light trade lambs were $6 cheaper while the better finished trades remained firm. Trade lambs sold from $100 - $138.  Heavy lambs remained firm selling from $125 to $154.  Extra heavy lambs sold from $156 - $167.  Merino trade weights $82 - $12, while heavy weights sold from $125 - $133.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for some of their clients -

The Whillock Family of ‘Maxland’ at Geurie, sold 2nd cross lambs in a 3/4 score condition for $131.

The Grattan family of ‘Pine Park’ at Wellington, sold Dorper lambs in a 2/3 score condition for $90.

Col Ryan of ‘Mayfield’ at Gulargambone, sold 2nd cross lambs in a 3 score condition with an inch skin for $135.

And lastly for The Hoare Family of ‘Bel-Air’ at Nyngan, sold SAMM lambs in a 3/4 score condition for $126.

Into the mutton pens now where the market remained firm across all grades.

Lightweight ewes sold from $23 - $68
Medium weight ewes sold from $72 - $86
Heavy weight ewes sold from $98 - $123

Lightweight wethers sold from $48 - $58
Medium weight wethers sold from $66 - $88
Heavy weight wethers sold from $93 - $100

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for some of their clients -

Locally for Rod Pilon of ‘Chloe’ who sold heavy crossbred ewes in a 4 score condition for $111.

Matt & Rachel Adams of ‘St Louie’ at Mendooran, sold heavy Dorper ewes in a 4 score condition for $90.

Lastly for The Cleaver Family of ‘Murrabee’ at Nyngan, sold Merino ewes in a 3 score condition, with an inch skin for $105.

Well that about wraps it up for another week, let’s hope the Wallabies can finally get a win and the Aussies wrap up the Ashes series next week.!!!!!!!!
