Fat Cattle Report
Good morning, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 3rd week of June, 2023. Tallied numbers this week included –
3700 fat cattle
19100 Lambs
10800 Mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly where numbers were back slightly on last week. Majority of the yarding suited the feeder orders with limited numbers to suit the processors. Heavy grown steers and heifers were also limited, but there were good numbers of heavy cows on offer.
Young cattle to the trade lifted 12 cents with prime steer yearlings selling from 300 - 404c/kg with breed again being an important factor on price. Prime heifer yearlings sold from 290 - 370c/kg with an isolated sale up to 414c/kg. Feeder steers and heifers were 10 cents softer. Feeder steers sold from 263 - 348c/kg and the feeder heifers sold from 206 - 314c/kg. Young cattle to the restockers gained 15 cents, with young British bred steers selling to 362 cents while the heifer portion topped at 334 cents.
Grown steers and heifers were 20 cents dearer this week. Grown steers sold from 260 - 326c/kg, while the heifer portion sold from 255 - 303c/kg. Cows were 6 cents better this week with the better D3/4 cows selling from 200 - 237c/kg. The best heavy bull reached a top of 220c/kg.
Just a couple of quick quotes this week -
Emma-Jane Lovell of ‘Dilligaf’ at Dubbo, sold Buckenbah Thumper, a Shorthorn steer for 258 cents, weighing 410kg to return $1058.
And for the Leigo Family of ‘Moorland Downs’ at Bourke who sold heavy Charolais cross cows for 226 cents, weighing 633kg to return $1432.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, and the first sale back after the Kings Birthday weekend had numbers increase even on a tough market. Most of the yarding was taken up by lighter unfinished trade lambs of all breeds, with limited numbers of heavy weights yarded. All usual buyers competed in a cheaper market.
Light lambs to the processors lost $6, selling from $40 - $70. Trade weight lambs also lost $5 selling from $80 -$140, with the range in price determined by breed and skin length. Heavy weight lambs eased $10, selling from $142 - $180, while the extra heavies sold from $183 - $200.
Merino lambs were firm to slightly dearer on the market 2 weeks ago. Trade weight Merino’s, $68 - $118 while heavy Merino’s sold to a top of $146. The best heavy hoggets reached $124.

To Wellington for The Deshon family of ‘Rocklee’, who sold Aussie White wether lambs in a 4 score condition for $151.
The Whale Family of ‘Glenroy’, sold 2nd cross lambs in a 3 score condition, with a 50mm skin for $125.
The Whillock Family of ‘Maxland’ at Geurie, sold 2nd cross lambs in a 3 score condition with an inch skin for $146.
Col Ryan of ‘Mayfield’ at Gulargambone, sold 1st cross lambs in a 3 score condition with an inch skin for $146.
The McKay family of ‘Winnabri’ at Trangie, sold Merino lambs in a 3 score condition with a 30mm skin for $100.
And for The Hoare family of ‘Bel-Air’ at Nyngan, who sold 1st cross SAMM lambs in a 3/4 score condition, with a 6 week skin for $150
Into the mutton pens now where light weight sheep lost $7 while the better finished heavy mutton remained firm.
Light ewes sold from $25 - $68
Medium weight ewes sold from $72 - $97
Heavy ewes sold from $106 - $146
Light wethers sold from $33 - $64
Medium weight wethers sold from $77 - $95
Heavy wethers sold from $101 - $138.

The Lawson Family of ‘Monte Carlo’ at Stuart Town, sold Merino ewes in a 2/3 score condition with a 2 inch skin for $100.
The Ellis Family of ‘Pinevale’ at Mogriguy, sold Merino ewes in a 3 score condition with an inch skin for $125.
To Nyngan now and for the George Family of ‘The Corners’, who sold Merino ewes in a 3 score condition with an inch and a half skin for $118.
The Butler Family of ‘Jambaroo’, sold Merino ewes in a 3 score condition with an inch skin for $120.
The Gibson Family of ‘Wilgadale’, sold Merino ewes in a 3 score condition with a 30mm skin for $115.
And lastly to Coolabah for Pete Edwards and Amanda Dunn of ‘Tubbavilla’, who sold heavy Merino ewes in a 4 score condition with an inch skin for a sale topping $140.
