Fat Cattle Report

Good morning, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 1st week of April.

With no sheep and lamb sale conducted this week due to Easter we get right into the cattle market where there was a total of 2700 cattle yarded, where we saw plenty of feeder cattle on offer as well as good runs of cows.  Grown steers and heifers were limited as were the weaner cattle.

Feeder steers lifted 5 cents to range from 299 - 365c/kg for the medium weights, while the heavy weight feeder steers sold to a top of 353c/kg.  Feeder heifers remained firm to sell from 288 - 338c/kg.

Grown cattle were limited in supply yet sold to strong demand with heavy steers selling from 270 - 338c/kg, with breed and age the factor in price variation, with heavy heifers selling from 260 - 320c/kg.  Cows had the biggest lift this week, lifting 25 cents in places with the better D3/4 cows selling from 250 - 284c/kg.  The best heavy bull reached a top of 230 cents.

Carter Lindsay and Weber sold the following cattle for some of their clients -

Locally for David Hearn of ‘San Diego’ at Dubbo, who sold Angus steers for 340 cents, weighing 517kg to return $1759.

The Skinner family of ‘Wembley Park’ also at Dubbo, sold Fresian cows for 238 cents, weighing 705kg to come back at $1677.

Caleb Hall off the Castlereagh Highway at Gilgandra, sold Angus steers for 400 cents, weighing 331kg to return $1327.

Well that warps it up for another week, don’t forget our next store cattle sale is scheduled for Friday 3rd May, 2024.
