Fat Cattle Report
Good morning, this is Campbell Rose from Carter Lindsay & Weber taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of April 2024.
Tallied numbers this week included –
5000 fat cattle
15,000 lamb
8,000 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where numbers increased and quality remained mixed. There were plenty of well bred cattle to return to the paddock and good lines of feeders.
Vealers were firm, reaching 338c. Restocker cattle were slightly cheaper returning to the paddock. Steers topping at 410c and the heifers reaching 320c. Feeder steers were firm for the middle weights, and 10c stronger for the heavy weights, with quality being a factor. Feeder steers sold from 320c-355c. Feeder heifers fell 15-20c, selling from 250 - 314c. Grown steers eased 10-20c with the heifers also dipping 35c. Steers sold from 279c - 328c and the heifers averaged 285c, topping at 320c. The increased numbers in cows created the market to drop 5-10c with prime heavy cows selling from 216c-265c and the medium weight 2 scores selling from 170c - 251c. PTIC cows returned to the paddock for 250c
Carter Lindsay and Weber sold the following cattle for some of their clients.
Ben and Cloe Lawson of ‘Monte Carlo’ Stuart Town, sold prime Santa cows for 250c, weighing 554kg and returning $1385
The Anderson Family, of ‘Malawa’ Narromine sold prime Angus steers for 336c, weighing 520kg and returning $1750.
John and Mary Burley of ‘Woodlands Station’ Nyngan sold weaner Angus steers for 360c, weighing 334kg and returning to the paddock for $1200
And Lastly, The Carter Family, of ‘Birrimba’ Nyngan sold prime heavy Santa Cows for 262c, weighing 694kg and returning $1818
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where numbers were similar and the quality fair to good. There was a good number of Dorper lambs and plenty of light mixed lambs. Light lambs to kill were dearer, up $20-$25, selling from $70 to $125/head. Trade lambs were $25 dearer this week selling from $120-$177. Heavy weight lambs lifted $10-$14/head selling from $156-$199/head, and the extra heavy’s topped at $234/head. Merino lambs reached $196/head. Light hoggets jumped $25-$30, reaching $120 and the best of the heavy hoggets made $138.
Into the mutton pens now, where the numbers eased and quality was mixed. Prices lifted $10-$12/head. Medium weight ewes sold from $56-$96, heavy Merino ewes reached $116, Crossbred ewes reached $113 and the heavy wethers made $127.
Carter Lindsay and Weber sold the following lambs and sheep for some of their clients -
Firstly, The Koerstz Family, of ‘Warrie’ Dubbo, sold Australian White lambs, in a 3 score condition, to $157.
Bruce and Vickie Lees of Yeoval, sold heavy crossbred lambs for $184
Warwick and Margaret Herbert, of Nyngan, sold heavy crossbred sheep, for $98.
And Lastly, Peter Dickson of ‘Glenhope’ Bourke, sold Australian White Hoggets for $86

Sheep and goat electronic identification
Applications open for producers and agents
All eligible sectors can apply for the NSW Sheep and Goats eID Infrastructure Rebate Scheme.
Sheep and farmed goat producers and stock and station agents can apply for a 50% rebate to supplement the purchase and installation of eID systems and equipment for sheep and farmed goats. Applications opened for saleyards and processors in the sheep and farmed goat sector on 1 August 2023.
Before you apply, make sure to check the guidelines for producers and agents. These guidelines contain information about what you are eligible for and what to include in your application.
Funding under the scheme is limited and therefore early applications are encouraged.
Applications will be accepted until 31 January 2024 for processors and saleyards and 31 March 2024 for primary producers and agents, or until program funding is exhausted.
