Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Campbell Rose from Carter Lindsay & Weber taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of February 2024.
Tallied numbers this week included –
3900 fat cattle
22,000 lamb &
17,000 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where numbers eased by 600 head from the previous week, with quality being mixed but a large number being in forward condition. There were good runs of yearlings, and not as many grown cattle.
Restocker cattle were 5-10 c cheaper on last week's strong market, with the steers topping at 404c and the heifers reaching 398c. Feeder steers were firm to dearer ranging from 330c - 400c for the medium weights. And 340c - 386c for the heavy weights. Feeder heifers sold from 280c - 355c. Grown steers were firm with the heifers being 15c cheaper. Steers sold from 285c - 329c and the heifers ranged from 265c - 290c. The cow market was 10c - 15c cheaper. With prime heavy cows selling from 240c-266c and the medium weight 2 scores selling from 218c - 238c.
Carter Lindsay and Weber sold the following cattle for some of their clients-
The Koerstz Family of ‘Warrie’ at Dubbo sold Angus x heavy feeders steers for 301c weighing 530kg, returning $1594.
The McWhirter Family of ‘Springfield’ at Tooraweenah sold Angus x feeder Steers for 364c weigh 486kg returning $1772
The O’Neill Family ‘Nellady’ at Trangie, sold Hereford cows for 260c, weighing a massive 870kg. To return $2262
And lastly, John and Mary Burley of ‘Woodlands Station’ at Nyngan, sold Angus weaner steers for 388c, weighing 268 kg to return to the paddock for $1041.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where numbers increased significantly and the quality remained mixed. There were good trade and heavy lambs and plenty of secondary lambs, mainly in the light and trade categories. Light lambs to kill were dearer, up $6 - $8. Selling from $68 to $115/head. Trade lambs lost $5-$10 this week making from $110 - $162/head. And the 24kg-26kg lambs made $152-$196/head. Heavy weight lambs ranged from $170-$215 and extra heavy’s topped at $258/head. Merino trade lambs were firm and reached $127/head. The best price for heavy hoggets was $165/head.
Into the mutton pens now, where the numbers jumped and quality once again was mixed. Prices dipped $6 - $10/head. Medium weight ewes sold from $46-$86 and the heavy crossbred ewes sold from $82 to $120. Merino ewes reached $115/head.
Carter Lindsay and Weber sold the following lambs and sheep for some of their clients -
Firstly, the Koerstz Family of ‘Warrie’ Dubbo sold Aussie White Lambs in a 3 score condition to the domestic market for $165
The Quinn Family of ‘Caroo’ Dubbo sold Dorper Lambs in a 3 score condition to the southern orders for $142
The Cook Family of ‘Donala’ Tottenham sold heavy Merino ewes to the export market for $100
The Plummer Family of ‘Trigoona’ Tottenham sold medium weight merino ewes to domestic market for $82
And Lastly, The Hoare Family of ‘Karabran’ Nyngan sold heavy SAM hoggets to the southern Market for $137

Sheep and goat electronic identification
Applications open for producers and agents
All eligible sectors can apply for the NSW Sheep and Goats eID Infrastructure Rebate Scheme.
Sheep and farmed goat producers and stock and station agents can apply for a 50% rebate to supplement the purchase and installation of eID systems and equipment for sheep and farmed goats. Applications opened for saleyards and processors in the sheep and farmed goat sector on 1 August 2023.
Before you apply, make sure to check the guidelines for producers and agents. These guidelines contain information about what you are eligible for and what to include in your application.
Funding under the scheme is limited and therefore early applications are encouraged.
Applications will be accepted until 31 January 2024 for processors and saleyards and 31 March 2024 for primary producers and agents, or until program funding is exhausted.
